METRICS 2005 11th International Software Metrics Symposium 19-22 September 2005 Como, Italy http://www.swmetrics.org/metrics2005 Sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society Call for Papers ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Important Dates * Abstract submission: 23 February 2005 * Technical Paper submission: 15 March 2005 * Workshop submission: 1 April 2005 * Dissertation Forum submission: 1 April 2005 * Notification of technical paper acceptance: 15 May 2005 * Industry Track submission: 30 May 2005 * Camera-ready technical papers due: 22 June 2005 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Software Metrics Symposium is the premier software engineering conference focusing primarily on the research and practice of software measurement. The Symposium also provides a forum for exploring the use of data to understand, evaluate, and model software engineering phenomena. We invite submission of technical papers and industrial experience reports, as well as proposals for workshops and a dissertation forum. Topics of interest include, but are not restricted to: * Effort and cost estimation * Defect rate and reliability prediction * Industrial experience in process improvement * Function Points adoption * Quality Assurance * Measurement-based decision making * Assessment of COTS Components and COTS-based systems, web applications and services, and software architectures * Empirical studies of global software development projects, open source software projects, agile development projects * Mining data from software repositories * Remote analysis and measurement * Qualitative methods in empirical studies * Measurement education and empirical studies with students * Measurement theory and fundamental issues ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Technical Paper Submission Papers should be original work, limited to 10 pages, describing unpublished research results, and significant industrial or educational experiences. Abstracts (max 200 words) are requested from authors considering paper submission for the purposes of arranging for appropriate review; authors will not receive feedback on their abstracts before the paper submission deadline. Submit your abstract and paper (in PDF format) via electronic submission from the conference web site. Your paper should be no longer than ten pages in double column format, with main text in 10 point font, including all text, references, appendices, and figures. Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings by the IEEE Computer Society Press. Selected high-quality papers will be invited to submit an expanded version for the ACM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology (TOSEM). For any question or problem related to paper submission, contact Filippo Lanubile at lanubile@di.uniba.it ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Industry Track Submission We also solicit industrial experience reports, limited to 4 pages, about the use of measurement in industrial environments with a particular focus on evaluation and estimation. Industry track papers should have at least one author from industry or government, will be considered for their industrial relevance, and should be submitted via email to Stefano De Panfilis at stefano.depanfilis@eng.it Authors of accepted papers will be expected to give full presentations at the symposium. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Workshop Proposals We invite proposals for one-day workshops on any of the topic areas mentioned above. Workshop proposals are designed around a specific theme and should be very interactive and discussion- oriented. Proposals should be submitted via email to Carolyn Seaman at cseaman@umbc.edu ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dissertation Forum We also invite proposals for a one-day dissertation forum for PhD students at an early stage in their research. The forum will provide an opportunity to interact with other doctoral students and get feedback from senior researchers in the field of software measurement. Proposals should include a research abstract (no more than three pages) and a letter of recommendation from the dissertation advisor. Accepted proposals will be included in the conference proceedings. Proposals should be submitted via email to Natalia Juristo at natalia@fi.upm.es ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Organizing Committee General Chair: Sandro Morasca, Università degli Studi dell'Insubria, Italy, sandro.morasca@uninsubria.it Program Chairs: Filippo Lanubile, Università degli Studi di Bari, Italy, lanubile@di.uniba.it Carolyn Seaman, University of Maryland Baltimore County, MD, USA, cseaman@umbc.edu Industry Track Chairs: Stefano De Panfilis, Engineering Ingegneria Informatica, Italy, stefano.depanfilis@eng.it Charles Symons, Software Measurement Services, United Kingdom, cr.symons@btinternet.com Dissertation Forum Chair: Natalia Juristo, Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, Spain, natalia@fi.upm.es Publicity Chair: Luciano Baresi, Politecnico di Milano, Italy, baresi@elet.polimi.it Local Arrangements: Chiara Stefanetti, Centro di Cultura Scientifica "A.
